Ilkon focuses on the multiple role of vegetation in biological engineering. Beyond the primary engineering task of water treatment, carefully selected vegetation always improves ecological conditions.
We are part of several workgroups in the universities of Cologne, Bonn and Peking, who have brought the development of biological treatment of waste water and polluted surface waters in constructed wetlands to the state of the art.
Ilkon has contributed to the construction of waters and wetlands by collaborating with innovative ecological engineering companies. Together we have constructed nature-like sealing of artificially created water bodies using ancient clay technologies improved by combining them with modern machinery and mixing technologies.
In collaboration with innovative gardening companies, Ilkon has developed methods to raise substrate-poor plant species used for ecological engineering or for phytoremediation on a large scale.
